Camden County monitoring weather situation
(Lindenwold, NJ) -- The Camden County Office of Emergency Management is monitoring weather reports as another strong system is expected to impact the area later today.
Once again we have a severe weather and flooding threat. Although a scattered shower or storm may pop up over the next few hours, the main concern is a developing line that is expected to strengthen as it arrives during the evening rush. The system brings with it the possibility of localized wind gust of up to 60 miles per hour, heavy downpours and flash flooding with rainfall rates of 2 to four inches. The severe threat and heaviest rains will be focused from 5:00 to 7:00 this evening with rain and possible flooding continuing into the overnight hours.
“If flooding occurs in our area, never drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway,” said Freeholder Scot McCray, liaison to the Camden County Office of Emergency Management. “Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road.”
“If there is an emergency situation, residents should call 911,” McCray said. “If they want to report flooding or downed trees on a County road, they should call the 24-hour Public Works hotline at (856) 566-2980.”
If the storm takes out electricity, residents should remember to call an outage in immediately to their utility company so they can identify the location and coordinate crews to restore power. Below are numbers and contact info for the two power providers and the two gas utilities in Camden County:
