Leave Fireworks To The Professionals This Summer
Published by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 07/03/2015 - 13:00By The Pennsauken-Collingswood Fire Prevention & Inspection Bureau
As we begin to enjoy the outdoor celebrations that summer affords us, residents may be tempted to include fireworks as part of backdoor barbeques and Fourth of July picnics. As enjoyable as this might seem, “consumer fireworks” are a very real safety hazard.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks were responsible for an average of almost 20,000 reported fires each year. They also cause thousands of burns and eye injuries annually. Even sparklers – which seem harmless – burn hot enough to cause third degree burns. In fact, sparklers caused 41 percent of fireworks injuries in 2013 alone.
Ultimately, the only safe way to enjoy fireworks is to avoid the use of consumer fireworks altogether and go to a public show put on by experts. In addition, keep a close eye on children at events where fireworks are used.
By following these simple steps, you can continue to enjoy fireworks as part of special celebrations and holidays this summer, while keeping your family and property safe.
