COMMUNITIES AT RISK

In 2015 volunteer firefighters represent over 85% of all our nation’s one million plus firefighters. Out of the 30,100 fire departments, over 25,000 are staffed by all volunteer or mostly volunteer firefighters compared to 4,600 that are staffed by paid or mostly paid firefighters.

Volunteer memberships are declining and fire departments are struggling to keep their companies properly staffed. Undermanned fire companies are leaving their communities and you at risk.

Pennsauken has suffered due to the decline of volunteer firefighters and the shortage of manpower and is depending on you to answer the call to help serve your community, family, and friends.

ABOUT THE PENNSAUKEN FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Pennsauken Fire Department was first formed in 1913 and protects a population of just under 36,000 residents living within the 12 square miles that makes up Pennsauken. We have a staff of approximately 75 members, including 52 volunteers, 18 full time personnel and 5 part-time personnel, serving the community from 4 neighborhood fire stations and the Fire Inspectionv Office.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Volunteer firefighting is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. The skills you will learn as a firefighter are invaluable. There is no greater longerrunning example of volunteering in U.S. history than the volunteer fire service.

Your community needs more volunteer firefighters. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, the first thing you need to do is contact us by phone, email, or in person and ask what you can do to help. Any fire department member would be glad to answer your questions as well as give you a tour of the facility.
