The Township Clerk holds a statutory office required in every municipality in New Jersey and must have attained certification to hold the position.

The Township Clerk is appointed by the governing body.

Pennsauken Township has a Township Committee form of government.

The Township's governing body is composed of five members elected at large for staggered three-year terms. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are chosen from and by the members of the Township Committee to serve a one-year term.

Some of the functions of the Township Clerk include:

• As secretary to the governing body attends all official meetings of the Township Committee and is responsible for the preparation of the agendas and minutes for these meetings.
• The Township Clerk is the custodian of the municipal corporate seal and keeper of all the municipality's records
• Provides the public with information and processes requests for public records
• Publishes and posts legal notices
• Chief Registrar of voters in the Township and has responsibility for the conduct of municipal elections with the help of the Camden County Board of Elections

The Township Clerks Office issues the following licenses:

• Bingo/Raffle
• Board of Health
• Coin-operated machines
• Dog Licenses
• Liquor License
• Peddler/Solicitor
• Rental Registration
• Taxi/Limousine licenses

The Township Clerk's Office also handles Vital Statistic requests. The Township has on file birth, marriage and death records for any of these events that occurred in the Township.

To obtain a vital record a request form must be completed with the pertinent information and the appropriate identification presented.
