The firearms application process is now electronic. Please follow the below instructions for the Firearms Reporting System.
FARS Application Procedures for Applicants
First-time applicants can contact the FARS clerk (Elizabeth Oquendo) at 856-488-0080, ext. 2100 for additional information and assistance regarding the process
Step 1
Visit this website. You Must enter the site address as follows: Firearms Application and Registration System Website
Step 2
When you log on, you must enter the Pennsauken Township Police Department's ORI Number: NJ0042700
Step 3
Complete the online application. You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer.
When deciding how many permits you would like to get, remember:
- One permit is required for each handgun you wish to purchase (each permit is $2)
- You can purchase one handgun in 30 days
- Permits are good for up to 180 days (with renewal after 90 days)
- If you decide you want another handgun permit, and you didn't get more than one initially, you will need to apply again.
Step 4
You will need to submit payment at the Police department for your permits and, if applicable, the Firearms ID card. Permits to Purchase handguns are $2 for each permit and $5 for the ID card.
- You will be receiving automated email updates throughout this new process.
- Once your application is complete, a station representative will contact you to retrieve your Electronic ID card and Electronic Permits, everything is now online and electronic. However, you will need to print out your Electronic ID card as soon as you get the email confirmation it is approved and ready to use.
- Please advise your references that the FARS system will email them the reference questions to be answered. Your references can complete the questions using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to progress your background investigation. The online application is applicant-driven. Please ensure that you have entered the best phone numbers for yourself and your references as well as the best email addresses for yourself and references.
The system will notify you that your ID card and/or permits are ready, but the paperwork may still be in the chief's office for signature.

- The officer may activate Red Lights or horn / Siren to Gain your attention.
- Additional Officers may arrive as back-up
- Officer Will State Their Name / Department and advise you why you are being stopped
- The officer will request your Driver's License, Vehicle Registration, and Insurance Card
- OfficersMAY search your vehicle IF:
- You cannot provide Proof of Ownership or Registration for the vehicle
- Probable Cause exists that your vehicle contains evidence of a crime or contains illegal materials
- You are Arrested or your vehicle is impounded
- The officer MAY issue a Traffic Summons
- Motorists can expect to be treated in a Professional Manner

- Driver Should Safely Operate Vehicle to the right side of the Roadway and Stop
- Driver / Occupants should keep hands in plain view and stay in the vehicle unless told otherwise
- Driver should have Drivers License, Vehicle Registration, and Insurance Card ready for the Officer
- The driver should not make any sudden movements. Advise the Officer if you need to enter your glove compartment to retrieve your Driver's License, Vehicle Registration or Insurance Card
- Driver should not Debate the issuance of a traffic summons on the highway; Any disputes will be settled in Court
