Leaf Collection

Leaf Collection

All of Pennsauken’s leaves are composted, whether collected by our waste hauler or by Public Works personnel. Due to the comingling of yard debris, the bagged leaves are composted at a farm. However, leaf piles collected by Public Works are composted right here in Pennsauken at the DPW Leaf Compost Facility on Park Avenue! Once matured, the compost material is tested at Rutgers and offered to residents at a self-service bin located at the Municipal Pool Parking Lot.

In 2023, Public Works implemented a six-week curbside leaf pile collection schedule. The program has been designed to ensure that each section of Pennsauken receives at least two passes of curbside leaf pile collection. Additionally, residents can utilize the weekly Wednesday yard debris collection for bagged and canned leaves. Please note leaf piles placed at the curb after DPW crews have passed will not be collected until the second pass and leaves placed at the curb after the second scheduled pass will be required to be bagged for the normal Wednesday yard debris collection.

Preparation of Leaves: Yard Debris Weekly Collection

  1. Place cans or bags curbside by 6:00 am Wednesday.
  2. Do not place leaves, grass or vegetative waste with regular garbage or recycling.
  • The weekly yard debris collection occurs each week throughout the year.

Preparation of Leaves: Leaf Season Scheduled Collection

  1. Place leaves curbside on the weekend prior to the scheduled collection week for your section
  2. Place leaves on the curb strip, not in the street
  3. NJDEP regulations restrict leaves from being placed within 10 feet of any storm inlets.
  4. Leaf piles with branches or other debris mixed in will not be collected.
  • Signs will be posted around the sections where the collection is starting the following week.
  • Leaves will be collected by the leaf vacuum machine according to the posted schedule.
  • A leaf collection schedule will be available on this page and will be posted on the Township's social media accounts.
  • Due to the unpredictability of the weather, Public Works cannot guarantee any additional passes once your street has been vacuumed.
  • Please be aware that rain can slow down the collection process. Any changes to the schedule will be posted via the website and Township social media accounts.

Leaf Collection Schedule

The town has been divided into three sections, using the existing garbage day routes. Your trash/recycling collection day determines which leaf collection section you are in.
