Special Olympics NJ Program
Overview
Pennsauken is partnering with Special Olympics NJ, whose mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Young Athlete Program (Ages 2-7)
Our Young Athletes Program is designed for children ages 2 through 7 with and without intellectual disabilities and to introduce them to Special Olympics New Jersey. Our program focuses on inclusive sports play that teaches skills like balance, jumping and kicking. Your Athlete will have the ability to learn and improve their social skills like taking turns and playing with teammate’s, build their self-confidence, and the opportunity to play as a family and meet new friends.
Young Athletes focuses on the following skills:
- Foundational Skills (strength, flexibility, and body awareness)
- Walking & Running
- Balance & Jumping
- Trapping & Catching
- Throwing
- Striking
- Kicking

Soccer Program (Ages 8 and above)
Pennsauken Township will be hosting a soccer team(s) to take part in weekly practices with the option to participate in Special Olympic Regional Tournaments throughout the season.
