Pennsauken Township’s Halloween Home Decorating Contest

DEADLINE EXTENDED! The hunt is on for the best Halloween decorations in town! Sponsored by Pennsauken’s Department of Parks and Recreation, the annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest recognizes those homes that go all out for the spookiest time of the year.

A team of guys and ghouls will be creeping around town to locate the most impressive expressions of Halloween spirit Pennsauken has to offer. Each judging team will perform “street view” evaluations of your home for creativity, spookiness, and general appeal. This year, there are three judging categories:

• Goosebumps Award (Scariest/Spookiest Home)
• Creepy Chronical Award (Best Overall Theme)
• All-Hallows Award (Best Traditionally Decorated Home)

There will also be the “Pumpkin King” Award, given out to the best decorated home overall.

In order for decorated homes in Pennsauken to be considered for this year’s contest, residents must submit their address using the online form on our website. Registration runs through Friday, Oct. 20.

Pennsauken Police Trunk Or Treat On October 18

The Pennsauken Township Police Department invites the local community to its second annual Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., 2400 Bethel Ave. Trick or Treaters will be able to safely get candy and other snacks from vehicles decorated for Halloween.

Pennsauken’s Haunted Hayride On October 25

Now featuring a longer route! Pennsauken Township’s annual Haunted Hayride will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd.

Sponsored by the Pennsauken Country Club and the Township’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Haunted Hayride features ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and the walking dead providing scary fun for the whole family, as guests ride around in a hay wagon pulled by a tractor. It’s a great bargain, as the cost for the Haunted Hayride is just $2.00 per person.

In addition, Pennsauken’s first responders will be handing out Halloween candy to participants.

Please note that line for the haunted hayride closes prior to 9:30 p.m. Based on past attendance, participants are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 p.m. The rain date for the Haunted Hayride is Thursday, Oct. 26, at the same location and time.

Volunteers are once again needed for this year’s Haunted Hayride. Generous students and residents are asked to dress up as zombies and monsters to help provide some scary fun for hayride goers. In addition, community groups and local businesses are invited to create and participate in a scary scene for the event. Halloween Events At The Pennsauken Free Public Library

Monster Toy Lab – Saturday, Oct. 21; 2:00 p.m. Enter our library lab and step into the role of Mad Scientist! Just like Dr. Frankenstein, you’ll be able to create your own monster. Take apart old toys and piece together your monster mash-up to create something new! How creepy can your creation get? Join us for this monstrous fun event!

Boo Bash – Sunday, Oct. 29; noon to 2:00 p.m. Join Youth Services for a family-friendly afternoon of Halloween fun. Be sure to wear your costume!

Trick Or Treating In Pennsauken 2023

Kids throughout town are getting their costumes ready for Halloween and planning a route to get the most candy! Trick or Treating in Pennsauken will occur from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, rain or shine.

To help keep children safe and out of trouble, Pennsauken Township has a curfew from Sunday, Oct. 29, through Tuesday, Oct. 31. Per municipal code, minors under 16 years of age can’t be out past 8:00 p.m. during these days, “unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or some duly authorized and accredited custodian of at least 18 years of age who exercises such control of said minor with the consent of parents or legal guardian.” This means that the child must be with someone who is legally responsible for them.
